Why Is It Worth Spending 15 Years Focusing on an Ultra-low Power Consumption IoT Devices Platform?

April 10, 2024

Ultra-low-power technology that allows workers to work safely, easily, and efficiently may take decades to develop, but it is one of the most cost-efficient, environmentally friendly, and lightweight options on the market.

The goal of low-energy devices is to significantly decrease the demand for electrical energy, as higher electrical usage increases financial and environmental costs. Using ultra-low-energy ring scanners promotes energy conservation and environmental protection.

 This is how it’s done:

- Less plastic

- Longer lifespan of batteries

- Less chips and other electronic components

Typically, in order to have long lasting batteries, larger shells are needed to contain their components. Hyco ring scanners work up to 18 hours per charge, while using 3-4x less plastic than traditional RF Gun. This decrease in plastic results in a substantial reduction on the environmental impact, as the use of non-degradable plastic increases carbon emissions with increased production.

Furthermore, these devices reduce typical negative production consequences due to their long lifespan. With low-power scanners, only a very small-capacity battery is required. Traditional solutions often demand large capacity batteries that are scrapped due to frequent charging. This amount of discarded batteries causes unnecessary environmental pressure. Fortunately, the ultra-low power technology allows these small batteries to live up to 8 years (based on previous customer experience), and therefore do not need to be replaced as often.

Finally, this technology reduces the need of chips and other electronic components, and in turn, scrapping, as they only need one SOC. Traditional solutions need more higher-performance chips, and therefore the production and disposal of these chips and components imposes substantial environmental pressure.

Overall, with the use of ultra-low powered ring scanners, companies can increase their efficiency and safety in the warehouse, while showcasing their efforts and achievements in achieving carbon neutrality and sustainability.
