Industrial Standards for Ring Scanners

February 16, 2024

A ring scanner is a convenient wearable device that effortlessly scans barcodes and is worn on the finger like a ring. Designed to offer a hands-free solution, ring scanners enable workers to move freely and complete tasks without the constant inconvenience of picking up and putting down a handheld scanner. This results in efficient and accurate barcode scanning capability, streamlining the scanning process and enhancing overall productivity.

Safety

  • Finger and Skin Friendly: Should not cause harm to fingers or skin even after prolonged wear.
  • Low Power Consumption: This should generate minimal heat and consume low power.
  • Sleek Design: Should have a smooth design without sharp edges to prevent snagging on clothes or objects.

User-Friendliness

  • Lightweight: Should weigh less than 20g for comfortable, prolonged wear.
  • Easy to Wear and Connect: Should be effortless to wear, remove, and connect to other devices.
  • Intuitive Controls: Preferably equipped with double-sided controls for ease of use

Stability

  • No Device Freezing: Should not freeze, preferably not more than once per week.
  • Stable Bluetooth Connection: You should maintain a stable Bluetooth connection with no more than one unintentional disconnection weekly.
  • Robust Electromagnetic Compatibility: Should not interfere with or be disturbed by other devices.
  • Drop-Proof: Should withstand falls from at least 1.8 meters; preferable survival from 3-meter drops.
  • Water and Dust Resistance: Should have a minimum rating of IP65, preferably IP66 or higher.

Performance

  • High Accuracy: Should have an error rate of no more than 1 error per million scans.
  • Fast Response: Should be capable of scanning at least 100 times per second (50 scans for 2D scanning).
  • Long Battery Life: Should offer continuous operation for at least 8 hours after a full charge.
